ITANAGAR, Jan 11: The 3rd edition of the Pakke Paga Festival 2018 will be held from January 18 to 20 at Seijosa, on the theme, ‘Celebrating Nature’.
The three-day event will witness tourist activities like Jeep Safari, trekking, butterfly walk, river rafting at Tippi range, wildlife photography, elephant safari, bird watching, a workshop on the organic dye, traditional games and sport, etc.
Speaking on the concept of the organizing the festival, festival secretary Basang Wage informed that it is a festival which celebrates the spirit of conservation.
Basang, who was addressing a press conference at Arunachal Press Club here, informed that in 2011, a group of researchers and conservationists of the Nature Conservation Foundation visited Pakke Tiger Reserve and adopted two hornbill nests, and gradually the local residents there followed suit.
He informed that at present there are more than 16 nest protectors who are being paid an annual honorarium of Rs 6000. The honorariums are being funded by the donations given by the nature conservationist from across the country and abroad, Basang added.
Commenting on the mascot of the festival, a Great Indian Hornbill, the festival director informed that the mascot was selected because the hornbill plays a significant role in dispersal and germination of lots of tree species, and thus known as ‘farmers of the forest’.
He informed that the Pakke Tiger Reserve has four species of hornbills; the Great Indian Hornbill, Wreathed Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, and Rufous-necked Hornbill.
