PASIGHAT, Jun 22: A significant dacoity plot was thwarted in Pasighat with the arrest of five former cadres of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), as per East Siang superintendent of police Dr Sachin Kumar Singhal.

Acting on intelligence inputs that an Assam-based group, including surrendered NDFB cadres, was planning a dacoity at a high-cash transaction shop in Pasighat market area, the police swung into action. Under the direct supervision of SP Singhal, a team led by ASP Pasighat Pankaj Lamba and including OC PS Pasighat Ige Lollen, SI Kuncha Tangha, and others, conducted an overnight operation with multiple raids on June 1.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of three surrendered NDFB cadres from Pasighat: William Basumatary, Basant Basumatary alias Ladum, and Rashmi Basumatary, all residents of Assam. Further interrogation revealed the involvement of additional individuals who had fled the town due to heightened police checks.

Subsequent efforts led by SI Kuncha Tangha, HC C Kumar, and CT Deka, in coordination with Assam police, culminated in the arrest of two more individuals, Paresh Deka alias Haathi and Mrigen Rabha, from Hatigaon area in Guwahati, Assam.
