ITANAGAR, Jun 27: Former chief minister Geogong Apang has expressed shock and grief over the demise of chief minister Pema Khandu’s mother, Leki Zangmu.

Fondly known as ‘Ama Lezang’, she breathed her last due to age-related ailments at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences, Naharlagun on Thursday.

Offering condolences to the bereaved family, Apang prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The Confederation of Service Associations of Arunachal Pradesh (CoSAAP) has also condoled the Ama Lezang.

Expressing sadness over the loss, CoSAAP remembered Ama as a dedicated wife and mother whose contribution to the state’s progress and development, through her husband and son, has been invaluable.

Offering prayers for the bereaved family, the apex employees’ body of the state has also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Arunachal Pradesh conducted a condolence meeting at the party’s HQs here on Thursday to mourn the demise of Ama Lezang.

Recalling her as a remarkable woman, the party said her demise is a great loss for the state.

She will be always remembered by the people of Arunachal Pradesh for her humble nature, exceptional personality and nurturing spirit, the party said.

A two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
