ITANAGAR, July 24: General Officer Commanding 2 Mountain Division Major General VS Deshpande on Wednesday called on governor KT Parnaik at Raj Bhavan.

The two discussed the international border, the Vibrant Village program, and the implementation of Sadbhavana projects by the Army, an official statement from Raj Bhavan said here.

Major General Deshpande made a detailed presentation on the celebrations being planned on the occasion of ‘Walong Day’ on November 14 next, highlighting the bravery of our troops and the cooperation of the local citizens who fought alongside the army.

The Walong Day is being celebrated to honour those people for their valuable contributions.

The Army also plans to conduct various adventure and cultural programmes which will harness the tourism potential of the state in the eastern region of Arunachal Pradesh.

Parnaik complimented the officers and troops of 2 Mountain Division for their alertness on the borders and for effective Sadbhavana projects for the welfare of the people residing in border areas.

The GOC assured the governor that the troops and officers of the 2 Mountain Division would leave no stone unturned to ensure tranquillity, and development in its area of responsibility, while maintaining very cordial relations with the local administration and the people of the state, the statement added.
