ITANAGAR, Aug 21: Arunachal Pradesh Police in collaboration with its Assam counterpart, have busted a fake electronic Inner Line Permit (e-ILP) racket and apprehended three individuals involved in the illegal issuance of fraudulent e-ILPs.
The investigation was launched following a complaint lodged through the Banderdewa circle officer regarding the operation of a fake ILP racket facilitating unauthorized entry into Arunachal Pradesh.
Acting on the complaint, Police conducted a detailed inquiry into the alleged activities. During the investigation, the police found that two individuals, Mulcha Munda and Uttam Munda from North Lakhimpur, Assam, had obtained suspicious e-ILPs purportedly issued by the Deputy Resident Commissioner (DRC), Tezpur.
However, the DRC Tezpur confirmed that no such e-ILP had been approved for these individuals, a confirmation that was corroborated by the state nodal officer for e-ILP.
A formal case was subsequently registered at Banderdewa police station on August 10 under sections 468 (Forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.
During the investigation, the police traced the alleged fake e-ILP holders, who revealed that they had obtained the fraudulent document from a cybercafe in Dejoo, Lakhimpur district, Assam.
A joint operation by Arunachal Pradesh and Assam Police led to the arrest of the cybercafe owner, Diluwar Hussain (22), who admitted to generating the fake e-ILPs using free online applications.
Further investigation revealed that other cybercafes in the Dejoo area were also involved in issuing fake e-ILPs and offline ILPs.
The joint police teams conducted additional raids in Dejoo, leading to the arrest of two more individuals, Ajibur Rehman (24) and Sultan Saddik (24), from two separate shops.
Incriminating documents, including fake offline ILPs, fake e-ILPs, and computers, were recovered from their possession.
The police team involved in the operation was led by Naharlagun SDPO Paul Jerang, Banderdewa police station officer-in-charge inspector Kipa Hamak and a team of officers, under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo.
