KHELLONG, Jan 18: Forest & Environment Minister Wangki Lowang laid the foundation stones for two significant projects—the Dalai Lama Heritage Trekking Trail and the Dalai Lama Biodiversity Park—at Khellong in West Kameng district.

The ceremony was attended by Thrizino-Bhalukpong MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow, West Kameng Zilla Parishad Chairman Karma Dorjee Thongdok, Conservator of Forests and Wildlife Damodar, and Kalaktang-Rupa MLA Tseten Chombay.

The Dalai Lama Heritage Trekking Trail retraces the historic journey undertaken by the 14th Dalai Lama during his passage to India in 1959. The trail is expected to draw adventure enthusiasts while highlighting the region’s cultural and historical significance.

The Dalai Lama Biodiversity Park is aimed at promoting eco-tourism and environmental conservation while celebrating the area’s rich biodiversity and cultural heritage. Officials noted that the park would act as a symbol of harmony between nature and heritage.

Both projects are expected to enhance the eco-tourism potential of the region and provide visitors with an opportunity to explore its unique natural and cultural legacy.
