ITANAGAR, Jan 18: Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development, Savitri Thakur, met with Governor KT Parnaik at Raj Bhavan to discuss issues related to Anganwadi services in the state. The meeting focused on key components of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), including supplementary nutrition, preschool education, immunization, health check-ups, and referral services.

State women & child development minister Dasanglu Pul also attended the meeting.

The governor welcomed the union minister and expressed hope that her visit would strengthen the implementation of welfare schemes and provide insights into the challenges faced in the region.

Commending the efforts of ICDS officials, Anganwadi workers, and helpers, he noted their role in empowering women and fostering the growth and development of children in a safe environment.

Drawing on his interactions with Anganwadi workers during district tours, Parnaik suggested increasing financial remuneration and incentives for service providers. He highlighted the challenges faced by Anganwadi workers and helpers, who often cover large areas in difficult terrain and weather conditions to deliver services such as immunization and nutrition.

The governor also recommended enhanced financial support for constructing Anganwadi centre buildings, noting the higher costs associated with construction in remote and challenging regions.

The union minister appreciated the governor’s suggestions and assured that the concerns and requirements of Arunachal Pradesh would be addressed.

Earlier today, Thakur held discussions on various policies and initiatives aimed at the welfare of women and children. She also visited the Anganwadi centre in AAP BN Colony, Chimpu, where she observed activities and interacted with children. Thakur discussed the needs of the centre with an emphasis on strengthening child welfare efforts.

The union minister participated in a tree-planting event at the Arunachal Pradesh Police Battalion Colony as part of the 'Ek Per Maa Ke Naam' initiative, a nationwide environmental conservation program.

Thakur later met with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and senior officials to review ongoing welfare initiatives and explore avenues for further collaboration.
