Itanagar, Jan 20: The union Culture ministry, in collaboration with the Arunachal Chapter of SPIC MACAY, successfully conducted a series of Bharatanatyam workshops from January 15 to 19 last in the northeastern state.
The workshops were held in multiple educational institutions, including Latho government higher secondary school, JNV Hawai, VKVs in Amliang, Tafrogam, Tezu, Namsai, and Jairampur, Nimke School in Tezu, Anjaw Vidyapeeth, and Ramakrishna Mission School at Narottam Nagar.
The initiative aimed to introduce the classical dance form to the youth while fostering an appreciation for India’s rich cultural heritage.
Led by renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Dr Debaldev Jana, the workshops engaged approximately 2,000 students over five days.
Dr Jana shared his expertise and enthusiasm for Bharatanatyam, educating the participants about its history, cultural significance, and intricate techniques.
The program focused on constructive engagement for youth, steering them away from negative influences such as substance abuse. By offering a platform for creative expression and cultural exploration, the workshops empowered young minds while instilling a sense of national pride and cultural identity.
Students responded enthusiastically to the initiative, expressing their gratitude for the opportunity to learn about Bharatanatyam.
The interactive sessions, demonstrations, and hands-on training simplified the complexities of the art form, making it both accessible and enjoyable. Many participants shared their newfound interest in classical dance and their intention to explore other traditional art forms.
The collaborative effort, supported by SPIC MACAY, underscores its significant role as a cultural partner for implementing the NEP 2020.
The organization works closely with key institutions such as IITs, IIMs, IISERs, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and private universities and schools, alongside the education ministry and other stakeholders.
The workshops also highlighted Bharatanatyam’s role in shaping India’s cultural identity. The dance form, known for its intricate movements, expressive gestures, and rich symbolism, represents a vital aspect of India’s heritage.
By introducing this classical art form to the younger generation, the initiative fostered a deeper connection to the country’s cultural roots and inspired a greater appreciation for the diversity and richness of Indian culture, a communiqué informed here.
