Itanagar, Jan 27: The Arunachal Sociological Forum (ASF) on Monday convened a meeting with the Principal of Saint Claret College Ziro (SCCZ) in Lower Subansiri district, to advocate for Sociology as a core subject in the institution's curriculum.
SCCZ, recently granted autonomous university status, is seen as a vital platform for introducing the subject, given its significance in addressing the state’s unique socio-cultural and developmental challenges.
ASF emphasized Sociology’s role in understanding human behavior, social issues, and cultural dynamics, making it particularly relevant in Arunachal Pradesh, a state known for its diversity.
The forum pointed out that the lack of Sociology in educational institutions restricts students' exposure to the subject, thereby limiting opportunities for higher studies and careers in sociology-related fields.
The Principal of the college acknowledged the importance of the proposal and expressed willingness to consider it. The meeting represents a pivotal step toward enhancing the academic offerings in the state, with hopes of encouraging other institutions to follow suit.
ASF believes the inclusion of Sociology in SCC’s curriculum will empower students with insights into their society and foster meaningful contributions to the state's development. The forum remains committed to collaborating with SCC to ensure the successful implementation of the subject.
