Anini, Feb 1: Environment and Forest Minister Wangki Lowang on Saturday joined the people of Dibang Valley in celebrating Reh, the annual festival of the Idu-Mishmi community.
Addressing the gathering, the minister emphasized the region’s rich natural resources and underscored the importance of their conservation.
He also proposed that the district’s handicrafts and handlooms be marketed with a trademark to prevent copyright infringement by external entities.
Local MLA and chief patron of the celebration, Mopi Mihu, highlighted the need to preserve cultural traditions while embracing modernity.
The festival featured various cultural performances by self-help groups and students, showcasing the theme of harmonious coexistence with nature, a practice deeply rooted in the traditions of the Idu-Mishmis.
The minister was accompanied by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) Ngilyang Tam.
The event saw participation from HoDs, officers, panchayat members, and community representatives.
Reh was celebrated across the district in various circles, with festivities set to continue for the next two days, offering a vibrant display of the Idu-Mishmi community’s cultural heritage.
