Doimukh, Feb 4: Health and Family Welfare minister Biyuram Wahge on Tuesday emphasized key measures such as conducting health camps across all districts to identify prevalent diseases, adopting strategic methods to combat them, raising awareness about cancer, utilizing social media for health campaigns, and ensuring the availability and functionality of medical equipment.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Integrated Mega Specialty Health Camp at the District Hospital campus here, Wahge underlined the importance of expanding Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities to create awareness about life-threatening diseases and good health practices.
He also stressed the role of doctors and nurses in delivering quality healthcare services and urged them to remain committed to patient care.
Local MLA Nabam Vivek expressed concern over the district hospital, which was notified long ago but is yet to be fully functional. He requested the minister to expedite the hospital’s operational readiness by providing necessary assistance.
Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) director Dr Marbom Basar highlighted the implementation of the Sampoorna Suraksha strategy under the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) Phase 5, set to conclude in 2026.
He said the initiative has been launched in districts like Papum Pare, East Kameng, and Lower Dibang Valley as part of the first phase.
Basar emphasized the need for behavioral changes to prevent HIV and noted that stigmatization remains a major challenge. He also pointed out a surge in HIV cases across Arunachal between 2022 and 2023.
WHO consultant Nidhi Sumnyan spoke on the “100 Days Intensified TB Campaign,” focusing on eliminating tuberculosis through targeted interventions.
Health Services director Dr Riken Rina provided additional insights into efforts to strengthen the state’s healthcare system.
During the event, the health minister launched the 100-day Intensified TB campaign and distributed food baskets to adopted TB patients.
A total of 230 patients benefited from the camp, availing specialized medical services in medicine, surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, chest, eye, ENT, pediatrics, dermatology, and AYUSH. Screenings for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), tuberculosis, HIV, and hepatitis were also conducted.
Among those present at the event were Papum Pare DC Jiken Bomjen, DMO Dr Reena Ronya, Doimukh SDO Kipa Raja and other senior officials.
