Itanagar, Feb 5: Indian powerlifter Rige Kaye from Arunachal Pradesh secured a gold medal in the 67.5 kg Senior Men category at the World Powerlifting Championship held in Cairo, Egypt, from February 1 to 6.
Competing in the Raw Full Powerlifting category, Kaye lifted a total of 500 kg, earning the top position on the global stage and adding another accolade to India's sporting achievements.
Hailing from New Telam in Arunachal’s Lower Siang district, Kaye is the son of Mori Kaye and Yater Miroh Kaye.
Kaye has been a consistent performer in powerlifting competitions over the years, winning multiple state, national, and regional championships. His recent achievements include gold medals at the State Powerlifting Championship, National Deadlift Championship, and Northeast Deadlift Championship.
In addition to powerlifting, Kaye has also competed in arm wrestling, securing a gold medal at the 2023 State Armwrestling Championship and a fourth-place finish at the National Armwrestling Championship.
