Hawai, Feb 6: Women & Child Development Minister Dasanglu Pul released six pictorial glossary books in the Meyor language during the 17th Lha Chhuth Festival at Tinai Village in Anjaw district.
The event, attended by native Meyor speakers, Anjaw deputy commissioner Millo Kojin, Indigenous Affairs director Shokep Kri, and Meyor Welfare Association president TT Meyor, highlighted ongoing efforts to preserve indigenous languages.
Pul emphasized the importance of safeguarding mother tongues to maintain Arunachal Pradesh's cultural diversity. She commended the RIWATCH Centre for Mother Languages (RCML) research team and the Meyor community for developing books aimed at engaging children and strengthening their connection to their linguistic heritage.
RCML research assistant Miju Mena stressed the role of native speakers in the revitalization of endangered languages. He urged the community to actively promote Meyor, ensuring its relevance for future generations.
The six pictorial books, published under the theme "Thaichu Ning Meyor Lai Ling Chaai" (Let Us Learn Meyor), cover various semantic domains of the Meyor language.
They are part of the research project "Promotion and Literary Development of the Mother Languages of Arunachal Pradesh," supported by the North Eastern Council, Shillong, and facilitated by the department of indigenous affairs.
The initiative marks a step towards language preservation in Arunachal Pradesh, where many indigenous languages face the threat of extinction.
