Khonsa, Feb 6: A two-day training programme on postmortem examination and medico-legal issues for General Duty Medical Officers (GDMOs) from Tirap, Changlang, and Longding districts concluded at General Hospital, Khonsa. The training, held on February 4 and 5, was organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Medical Education (Training & Research) and Forensic Sciences, TRIHMS Naharlagun.

A total of 40 doctors from various health facilities in the region participated in the program, which aimed at strengthening medico-legal expertise and preparedness. District medical officer N Lowang welcomed the resource persons, forensic specialists Techi Rekhi from TRIHMS and Mope Loyi from BPGH, Pasighat. She commended the participating doctors for their commitment to improving medico-legal practices.

The training covered various aspects of postmortem examinations, medico-legal duties of doctors, handling of sexual assault cases, and the use of forensic examination kits. Participants were also briefed on relevant medico-legal sections and engaged in case work tests and discussions on report writing. The training, being the first of its kind in the region, is expected to enhance the technical capacity of doctors in handling postmortem and medico-legal cases effectively.

To ensure continued skill development, review meetings and follow-up workshops will be conducted regularly at General Hospital, Khonsa.

During the valedictory session, medical superintendent Tumli Basar expressed appreciation to the participants and thanked the resource persons for their contributions. He also acknowledged the efforts of senior medical officer (SG) and convener (training) Thenyak Matey for coordinating the event.

The initiative marks a step toward improving medico-legal standards in Arunachal Pradesh and aligns with the government’s efforts to enhance forensic medical training for healthcare professionals.
