Itanagar, Feb 7: Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies minister Balo Raja on Friday said that the government's top priorities are garbage management and town beautification, to ensure a peaceful city.
Chairing a meeting along with Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tamme Phassang, the minister urged residents of the twin capital and local businesses to cooperate in making the city cleaner, greener, and crime-free.
Raja emphasized that ‘the capital belongs to everyone’ and warned that strict actions, including penalties, would be taken against those violating cleanliness and safety norms. He also shared updates on the ongoing installation of CCTV cameras across the city and announced plans to award the cleanest wards.
The meeting brought together officials from IMC, DC-ICR, SP Naharlagun, SP Itanagar, as well as representatives from Banderdewa circle administration and the Itanagar Smart City project.
The discussions covered a range of developmental issues aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and environment.
Phassang, in his address, outlined key initiatives by IMC to improve the city's cleanliness and solid waste management, such as the sewerage treatment plant, the proposed municipal solid waste charcoal plant, and regular cleanliness drives.
He stressed that while IMC remains committed to these efforts, public cooperation is essential for their success.
In response to improper waste disposal, the mayor announced the introduction of a door-to-door garbage collection service twice a day.
He also proposed imposing fines for those who dispose of waste improperly or in public places.
Further, Phassang emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness along highways, expanding IMC's jurisdiction within the twin cities, deploying security personnel for a peaceful environment, and ensuring vigilance on violators.
