Mechukha, Feb 10: The Shi Yomi District unit of Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) withdrew its proposed bandh on Saturday following successful negotiations with Education Minister and local MLA Pasang Dorjee Sona, who assured the resolution of key concerns raised by the student body.
An emergency meeting was held at the deputy commissioner’s office in Tato under the chairmanship of Sona, who assured the AdiSU that their demands were being addressed. He informed them about the formation of a state-level committee, comprising secretary health, director health services, and PWD superintendent engineer, to conduct ground verification of Tato district hospital, Mechukha community health centre and other medical facilities.
Based on the committee’s findings, feasibility would be assessed, and necessary funds would be allocated in the 2025-26 Budget Estimate to expedite the restoration of the hospital. Procurement of medical equipment would follow the hospital's completion, he added.
Regarding the demand for a mortuary room at Mechukha CHC, the minister said the proposal was under process, while land geotagging for a mortuary room at PHC Tato had already been completed.
On the pending distribution of food grains under the Public Distribution System (PDS) for September-November, he clarified that the matter was sub judice in the DGRO Shi Yomi court and would be resolved accordingly.
Sona also assured administrative strengthening in the district, stating that one Circle Officer had already been posted to Pidi Circle. He would request additional officers to ensure the smooth functioning of the Monigong ADC and Pidi CO offices. On the delayed Tato-Monigong Road construction, the minister cited land disputes and title suits affecting land acquisition for the Frontier Highway project.
He assured that maintenance work would commence as soon as the land was handed over to the construction company.
Following these assurances, AdiSU Shi Yomi District Unit announced the withdrawal of the bandh, restoring normalcy in the region.
The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner in-charge Tungge Loya, circle officer Dr Nyato Doji, DSP Toni Tatak, Adi Baane Kebang (ABK) president Akar Hanggo, and AdiSU representatives.
