Namsai, Feb 11: Over 1,800 students graduated during the 9th Convocation Ceremony of the Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) held here on Tuesday.

Among them, 747 students attended in person, including 18 Ph.D. recipients and 53 gold medallists.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, who was the chief guest, lauded the university’s progress since its establishment in 2012. Highlighting the role of higher education in shaping Arunachal’s future, he urged graduates to apply their knowledge for societal and state development.

Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom, commended the students and praised AUS for its commitment to academic excellence. He encouraged graduates to continue their pursuit of knowledge and innovation.

AUS vice-chancellor Prof D S Hernwal extended his congratulations to the students and reaffirmed the university’s dedication to quality education and research. He urged them to uphold integrity and service in their professional lives.

Chancellor Kamal Lochan expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and emphasized the graduates’ role as ambassadors of knowledge. Dr Ashwani Lochan, president of the World Education Mission, spoke on perseverance, adaptability, and ethical leadership in today’s evolving world.

Pro-chancellor Vishva Lochan motivated students to remain committed to their aspirations, while social reformer and My Home India Foundation founder Sunil Deodhar shared insights on leadership and nation-building.

Padma Shri awardee Dr Rajani Kant, known for his contributions in Geographic Indications (GI), discussed the changing educational, social, and cultural landscape. Both Deodhar and Kant were conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) for their contributions in their respective fields.

Former Bhutanese MP Dupthob Yangstep congratulated the graduates, while registrar Divyanshu Goel delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of faculty, students, and organizers in making the event a success.

The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Namsai deputy commissioner C R Khampa, superintendent of police S Thinley, Padma Shri awardee Anshu Jamsenpa and National Teacher awardee 2024 Jyoti Panka.
