Tezu, Feb 17: Governor K T Parnaik met with women self-help groups in Lohit district on Sunday, during his two-day district tour, commending their significant contributions to improving the socio-economic landscape of rural and urban Arunachal Pradesh.
The governor praised the women for their leadership in education, sports, entrepreneurship, and community initiatives. He urged them to form more SHGs, emphasising the importance of teamwork in creating more opportunities and fostering sustainable growth.
Advocating for cleanliness and hygiene, he encouraged women to take up roles as sanitation and hygiene inspectors in their villages. He also urged them to ensure that every child in their community completes their education.
To further support economic empowerment, Parnaik announced the provision of 15 sewing machines to SHGs and encouraged skilled individuals to train others in tailoring to foster economic independence among women.
Additionally, he highlighted the potential for women-led businesses like salons and beauty parlours, offering to facilitate training programs to assist women in starting such ventures.
The governor also lauded the Arunachal State Rural Livelihood Mission (ArSRLM) for its efforts in empowering women and promoting self-reliance.
Takar Hakom, Block Mission Manager of ArSRLM Tezu unit, shared that the district is home to 206 self-help groups.
Lohit deputy commissioner Kesang Ngurup Damo was also present during the interaction.
