Bomdila, Mar 4: The state trade and commerce department, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) Kolkata, and the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Kolkata, is conducting a three-day awareness-cum-training workshop on export procedures, documentation, and packaging of agri-horti products at Dirang, from March 4 to 6 next.
The initiative is part of an export promotion drive launched by the Centre to reduce imports, enhance exports, and identify market opportunities for the state’s agricultural and horticultural products.
The workshop aims to equip farmers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders with essential knowledge of export procedures, documentation, and packaging to facilitate better access to global markets.
The inaugural session was attended by West Kameng deputy commissioner Akriti Sagar, along with circle officer Themang Moyir Kato, trade development officers Mekory Dodum from Bomdila and Joshlin Tayeng from the directorate office among others.
The DC expressed her appreciation to the department led by commissioner Saugat Biswas, for organising the event and lauded the overwhelming response from all sections of the community.
She urged participants to actively engage with the resource persons, including Dr Gautam Dutta from IIFT, and voice their concerns regarding export-related challenges without hesitation.
Dr Dutta highlighted the vast export potential of the state's agricultural and horticultural produce, mineral resources, handicrafts, and processed food products. He pointed out that small-scale entrepreneurs often face challenges due to a lack of awareness about export regulations, documentation, and market linkages, making such training programs essential for bridging the knowledge gap.
He emphasised that the workshop aims to create awareness about export compliance, innovative packaging design, and standardization to help local producers expand into international markets.
The technical sessions of the workshop include discussions on the export scenario of different districts, step-by-step guidance on export procedures and documentation, identifying foreign markets for local products, and insights into packaging trends and technology.
Experts from IIFT and IIP will provide training on packaging standards, symbols, tariffs, and non-tariff barriers relevant to agri-horti products.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the state's export capabilities, enhance its trade network, and support local producers in accessing global markets.
