Tawang, Mar 5: The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here was held on Wednesday at Zomkhang Hall, focusing on enhancing agricultural productivity and sustainable farming practices.
Tawang deputy commissioner Kanki Darang attended the event, emphasising teamwork and technical support to boost agricultural output.
The meeting, chaired by T D Neckom, chairman of SAC and director of agricultural marketing, saw participation from key officials, including Dr DeepJyoti Baruah, principal scientist (Fisheries) from Gogamukh, Assam.
Other attendees included Dr H C Bhattacharya, scientific consultant at ATARI Guwahati; Dr A P Milton from ICAR Research Complex at Meghalaya; senior scientists; district horticulture officer (DHO); district agriculture officer (DAO); subject matter specialists (SMS) of KVKs and progressive farmers of the district.
KVK Tawang's SMSs presented the annual report and an action plan for the upcoming agricultural season. Experts, including Dr H C Bhattacharya, offered recommendations to address local agricultural challenges.
The DC in his address urged the officials to provide strong technical support and guidance to relevant departments.
“You have chosen this field to serve the nation. It is your responsibility to remain dedicated to your organisation and the farmers. With sincere and committed efforts, we can transform Arunachal Pradesh into an agricultural producer state,” Darang said.
Neckom in his address reiterated the mandate of KVKs, emphasising the need to transfer sustainable and locally suitable technologies to farmers. He stressed that planning should be based on farmers' needs rather than officials' convenience.
He also highlighted that Arunachal Pradesh currently has 17 functional KVKs including, nine under the agriculture department, two under horticulture, one under animal husbandry and veterinary besides four under ICAR.
Dr Deep Jyoti Baruah in his deliberations, encouraged stakeholders to adopt innovative and sustainable farming techniques to improve productivity.
The meeting concluded with an interactive session where farmers shared experiences and concerns, while experts provided technical solutions.
The SAC meeting reaffirmed KVK’s commitment to improving agricultural practices, increasing productivity, and ensuring sustainable development in the border district.
