Itanagar, Mar 8: Over 265 cases were disposed of during the first National Lok Adalat of the year, held on Saturday across various subordinate courts in the state.

A total of 1,776 cases—both pre-litigation and pending—were taken up, out of which more than 265 cases were resolved, resulting in a total settlement amount exceeding ?1.41 crore.

The event was organized by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA).

Lok Adalats serve as an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, conducted in a single sitting to ease the burden of pending cases and reduce court congestion. They provide a forum for disputing parties to reach a mutual settlement at both the pre-litigation and pending stages.

The cases addressed in the Lok Adalat included criminal compoundable offenses, revenue cases, disputes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, bank recovery matters, electricity bill disputes, motor accident claims, matrimonial disputes, labor disputes, and other civil cases.

As many as 21 benches were constituted across various courts, including the District & Sessions Courts of Bomdila, Aalo, and Yupia, the Additional District & Sessions Court of Basar, the Chief Judicial Magistrate Courts in Daporijo, Roing, Pasighat, Changlang, Bomdila, Seppa, Ziro, Aalo, and Yupia, as well as the Judicial Magistrate First Class Courts in Yupia, Khonsa, Pangin, Longding, Palin, Hawai, and Yingkiong.
