Itanagar, Mar 8: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR) under the chairmanship of Ratan Anya, held a review meeting on Friday to discuss the establishment and operation of day care centres, playschools, and rehabilitation centres for children with special needs (CWSN) in the state.

The meeting took place at the directorate of women and child development, here.

The primary objective of the meeting was to enhance coordination among authorities for proper registration and monitoring of these establishments to ensure the safety and security of children.

During the discussion, the Commission also shared its observations and findings from recent visits to various rehabilitation centres for CWSN, as well as day care centres and play schools operating under the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR).

Departments including education, health, social justice & empowerment of tribal affairs, women & child development, Itanagar Municipal Corporation and ICR district administration, presented PowerPoint presentations on their activities.

A key issue highlighted in the meeting was the interchangeable use of terms such as day care centre, crèche, playschool, and pre-school, leading to confusion among the concerned departments.

To address this, the Commission recommended that the WCD department take responsibility for the registration and monitoring of all private day care centres in addition to government-run crèches. Similarly, it suggested that the education department oversee the activities of all playschools operating in the state.

The meeting was attended by APSCPCR members, the member secretary of APSCPCR, and representatives from various departments, among others.
