Longding, Mar 8: A team from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longding conducted a field visit to the French bean farm of progressive farmer Anon Atraham in Mopakaht village on Saturday.
Led by subject matter specialists Vikas and Dr Deep Narayan Mishra, the visit aimed to assess crop conditions and provide technical guidance on improving productivity and managing pests and diseases using organic and bio-control methods.
Vikas emphasized the importance of selecting high-yielding, disease-resistant varieties and maintaining balanced nutrient management through organic manures, bio-fertilizers, and proper irrigation. He also recommended mulching, periodic weeding, intercropping, and timely harvesting to improve yield and market quality.
Dr Mishra focused on integrated pest and disease management (IPDM), suggesting eco-friendly solutions such as yellow sticky traps, neem-based biopesticides, pheromone traps, and bio-control agents like Bacillus thuringiensis for pest control.
For disease management, he advised seed treatment with Trichoderma harzianum, foliar sprays of fermented buttermilk, and neem oil-soap solutions.
The experts encouraged farmers to adopt crop rotation, beneficial microorganisms, and strict field sanitation to enhance productivity while maintaining soil health.
