Itanagar, Mar 8: The magnificent Sela Tunnel in the state, India’s highest bi-lane tunnel at 13,000 feet, has completed two years since its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 9, 2023.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently visited the tunnel and commended the entire team for their remarkable achievement.
Over the past year, the tunnel has facilitated uninterrupted movement for tourists, locals, and army convoys, significantly reducing travel time, distance, and transportation costs to forward areas and Tawang, according to a defence communiqué issued on Saturday.
Beyond enhancing connectivity, the tunnel has boosted the socio-economic landscape of the region, with a surge in tourism and rapid infrastructure growth, including new hotels in the Tawang area.
In recognition of its impact, the Sela Tunnel has received multiple accolades, including a mention in the World Book of Records, the ASSOCHAM Award, the Build Infra Award, and a gold medal for Project Vartak, presented by Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik.
