Itanagar, Mar 11: Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) mayor Tamme Phassang on Tuesday conducted a surprise visit to Wards 13 to 20, accompanied by corporators, IMC commissioner Kego Jilen, and other municipal officials.
The inspection was aimed at engaging with ward members, sanitation workers, and residents to understand the challenges in civic management. The team also participated in a cleanliness drive, reinforcing their commitment to environmental sustainability and community involvement.
Speaking to reporters, Phassang stressed the significance of direct interactions with sanitation workers and residents.
“Such visits are necessary to assess the working conditions of our members. Today, we covered Wards 13 to 20, but more visits will follow in the coming days,” he said.
Urging public participation in maintaining cleanliness, the mayor asserted that the responsibility does not lie solely with the IMC. He also issued a stern warning to shopkeepers, business establishments, and private building owners, directing them to maintain hygiene around their premises and place dustbins outside.
He cautioned that failure to comply could lead to fines or even revocation of trade licenses.
Phassang emphasized the need for a cleaner city, particularly with improved road, rail, and air connectivity leading to an increase in visitors, including Union Ministers and tourists.
Acknowledging manpower constraints within the IMC, he reiterated the necessity of public cooperation in maintaining sanitation. He also called for stricter enforcement of Inner Line Permit (ILP) checks and the establishment of a proper Smart City Gate at Banderdewa.
The mayor further urged the government to expedite the demarcation of IMC and Urban Development Department jurisdictions to facilitate smoother administration. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the people, he called for collective efforts to ensure a clean, sustainable, and well-managed city.
