Itanagar, Apr 10: Police in Naharlagun have busted two major interstate drug networks operating within the Itanagar Capital Region, police said on Thursday.

Acting on credible information, police conducted two separate raids leading to the arrest of four drug peddlers including three women and seized heroin weighing 53.13 grams worth over Rs 4 lakhs and cash amount of Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession, Naharlagun Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo said.

On Wednesday, a police team conducted a raid at Nyigam Colony, Naharlagun and arrested the husband-wife duo identified as Rana Thapa (2() and Yami Rabo (25).

The team recovered 25 plastic vials containing 28.73 grams of heroin and Rs 45,000 in cash from their possession, the SP said.

A case has been registered at Naharlagun police station under Section 21(b)/27/27A of the NDPS Act.

In another operation, a raid was conducted at the residence of Dulena Begum (33) and Amirjan Begum (36) at Naharlagun, leading to the seizure of 24.4 grams of heroin and cash amount of Rs 80,000.

Both Dulena and Amirjan, residents of Laluk in Assam were arrested.

The team was led by Naharlagun police station officer-in-charge inspector Krishnendu Dev and others in presence of Naharlagun executive magistrate Khoda Bath.

A case has been registered at Naharlagun police station under Section 31(b)/27/29 of the NDPS Act.

Lauding the efforts of the police team, Gambo has reiterated the police’s commitment to combating the drug menace.

He said the drive against drug traffickers will continue with full force to protect the youth from falling prey to drug abuse.
