Itanagar, Apr 12: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a state-level workshop on the Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Samman Abhiyan 2025 at its headquarters in Itanagar on Saturday to commemorate Ambedkar's birth anniversary.
Speaking at the inaugural session, home minister Mama Natung said Ambedkar not only drafted the Constitution but also safeguarded the nation through his vision and principles. Criticising the Congress party, he said it had spread misinformation for decades, portraying BJP as being against the Constitution. Natung refuted the claim, stating that BJP has always upheld the Constitution while Congress has allegedly used it for political gains.
Addressing concerns over the Arunachal Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 1978, Natung said that rules under the Act are being framed in compliance with the High Court’s directive. He said the Act is not against any religion but aims to protect religious practices in the state. Natung further highlighted various developmental initiatives undertaken by the central and state governments and urged party workers to disseminate information about these achievements at the grassroots level.
State BJP president Kaling Moyong, in his presidential address, paid tribute to Ambedkar, describing him as the chief architect of the Indian Constitution and a champion of social justice. He criticised Congress for allegedly marginalising Ambedkar during his lifetime and thereafter. Moyong said the Samman Abhiyan would be observed from April 14 to 25 across the state, with programmes planned at the district, mandal, and booth levels.
Moyong also expressed support for the idea of "One Nation, One Election," calling it a reformative step for the country. He urged party leaders and workers to promote public awareness on the issue.
State general secretary and convener of the Samman Abhiyan 2025, Tadar Niglar, outlined the objectives of the campaign, emphasising the need to raise awareness about Ambedkar’s contributions and the BJP’s commitment to constitutional values. He informed that senior leaders have been designated as resource persons to train grassroots workers.
During the technical session, Niglar delivered a presentation titled "From Neglect to Reverence: Betrayal by Congress, Honour by BJP," discussing how Ambedkar’s legacy was historically neglected by Congress and later honoured by BJP.
Arun Halder, the national resource person, delivered a presentation on "BJP vs Congress: A Tale of Constitutional Integrity vs Constitutional Sabotage." He recounted instances from the Emergency period and criticised Congress for undermining democratic rights and manipulating constitutional amendments, while asserting that BJP has worked to uphold constitutional values.
