Itanagar, Apr 14: The birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was observed across the state on Monday with a series of programmes organized by political, academic, and social institutions.

At Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), the Department of Political Science hosted an online talk on “Ambedkar’s World: The Pursuit of Justice Through Struggle, Identity and Empowerment.”

Dr Prachand Narayan Piraji from the Department of English, delivered the keynote lecture, highlighting Ambedkar's lifelong struggle against caste discrimination and his advocacy for social justice through education and empowerment.

Professor Nani Bath emphasized Ambedkar’s role in protecting tribal rights in Northeast India, particularly through the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by programme coordinator Dr. Nuki Gammeng.

Separately, RGU organized a campus-level celebration, beginning with floral tributes and followed by a series of lectures.

Acting vice-chancellor, professor SK Nayak, attended the event as chief guest. Keynote speaker professor Lijum Nochi, along with Dr Jagdeep Rahul and Dr Ravi Ranjan Kumar, discussed Ambedkar’s contributions towards social justice, education, and constitutional values.

The event concluded with reflections on the importance of fraternity as a cornerstone for achieving liberty, equality, and justice.
