Itanagar, Apr 16: A Tata Yodha vehicle stolen from the parking area of Tata Motors in Papu Nallah was successfully recovered from Kohima, Nagaland, and the accused apprehended, police said on Wednesday.
The theft case was reported at Papu Hills Police Station on April 15. Prompt action was taken by Officer-in-Charge inspector Torum Mai, who launched an investigation into the matter. The stolen vehicle was initially traced to Nagaon in Assam, officials said.
A police team comprising sub-inspector A K Jha, ASI D Gurung and Constable Papu Halder, under the supervision of Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo and SDPO Rishi Longdo, proceeded to Nagaon. However, the accused fled from the location with the vehicle and moved towards Nagaland.
With real-time coordination between Arunachal and Nagaland Police, SI Jha ensured constant communication, leading to the successful apprehension of the accused in Kohima by Nagaland Police personnel.
The accused was identified as Habijul Ali (34), son of Abdul Rashid, a resident of Islampur Bechapatty in Dharmapur, North Lakhimpur district of Assam. He was subsequently arrested and brought back to Papu Hills Police Station for further legal proceedings.
SP Gambo has commended the Papu Hills Police team and appreciated the cooperation extended by the Nagaland Police, particularly under the leadership of North Kohima SDPO Sheta Lohe, for their crucial role in ensuring the success of the operation.
