Longding, Apr 16: A training and also demonstration programme on organic ginger cultivation was conducted under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) at Mopakhat village in Longding district.

The event was conducted by ICAR-KVK Longding plant pathology subject matter specialist Dr Deep Narayan Mishra and facilitated by Suneel Pandey.

During the session, Dr Mishra elaborated on the principles and practices of organic farming, emphasizing the importance of soil health, eco-friendly disease management, and sustainable agricultural methods.

A major highlight of the event was the live demonstration of seed treatment in ginger using Trichoderma harzianum, a beneficial fungus known for its biocontrol properties.

Dr Mishra prepared a bio-slurry by mixing 1 kg of well-decomposed cow dung, 5 litres of water, and 50 grams of Trichoderma powder.

He demonstrated how to dip the ginger seed rhizomes in the slurry for about 30 minutes before planting, explaining how this simple yet effective method helps prevent soil-borne diseases such as rhizome rot and enhances plant vigour.

The demonstration was carried out on the field of Iohaimun Wangsu, a progressive farmer from the Mopakhat village, who actively participated in the training and expressed his interest in fully adopting organic practices.

Farmers, who attended the event, praised the hands-on guidance and showed keen interest in implementing the demonstrated techniques in their own fields.

The programme showcased the collaborative efforts of ICAR-KVK Longding and MOVCDNER in promoting organic farming and empowering local farming communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
