Itanagar, Apr 18: One Jhony Gaduk, accused of abandoning his critically ill wife at their rented residence in Nyokum Lapang, Itanagar, was arrested by police on Friday.
The arrest follows intervention by the Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS), which took serious note of the incident involving a 34-year-old woman who was found in a severely ill condition after allegedly being left without medical assistance by her husband and his family.
APWWS president Kani Nada Maling, along with a team, met officials of the Women Police Station here to follow up on the case and urged the officer-in-charge to take prompt legal action. Police officials informed the team that the accused had already been apprehended.
The case came to light after Ramesh Jeke, chairman of the Arunachal Life Saving Foundation, rescued the woman on April 15 and arranged for her immediate medical treatment. According to reports, the woman had been left unattended despite her deteriorating health, prompting public concern and condemnation.
A joint team from the APWWS and the Women Wing of the Galo Welfare Society later visited the woman at RK Mission Hospital and interacted with her family, who have since initiated legal proceedings against the accused.
