Aalo, Apr 23: The West Siang district women and child development (WCD) department on Wednesday organised an awareness programme focused on domestic violence and the she-box initiative.

The event aimed to sensitise participants about women’s safety and legal provisions for protection against abuse.

ICDS deputy director Yabi Riba Ete, in her welcome address, emphasised the importance of awareness and collective responsibility.

One Stop Centre (OSC) administrator advocate Liyum Padu delivered an insightful orientation on key legal frameworks, including the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (PWDVA), and the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013.

West Siang district coordinator (Hub) Dagbom Riba highlighted the significance of the she-box, an online platform for reporting sexual harassment, and provided practical training on how to file complaints through the portal.

West Siang unit Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) president and chairperson of the local complaint committee Marbom Riba Bagra addressed the issue of domestic violence, shedding light on its impact and the need for strong community support.

Prosecuting officer from SP office advocate Gamde Padu explained the procedure for filing offline complaints related to sexual harassment and encouraged participants to utilise both online and offline channels to seek justice.

Around 50 participants took part in the programme, including representatives from APWWS, local and internal complaints committees, police personnel, supervisors, gram sevika, and anganwadi workers from the ICDS project of the district.
