Itanagar, Apr 23: The Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC) has imposed a monetary penalty on the Public Information Officer (PIO) & executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Raga division, Kamle district, for failing to furnish information in response to a Right to Information (RTI) application.

In its judgement, the Commission invoked Section 20(1) of the RTI Act, 2005. It imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the PIO for neglect and refusal to provide information to the appellant, Bini Toluk. Additionally, a compensation of Rs 5,000 was awarded to the appellant to cover travel expenses incurred due to delays in obtaining the requested information.

The Commission noted that the delay caused significant inconvenience and amounted to non-compliance with its earlier directions.

The Commission has warned that failure to comply with the order may lead to disciplinary action under Section 20(2) of the RTI Act, as per applicable service rules.
