Roing, Apr 24: Toyota Kirloskar Motor, in collaboration with Camdir Toyota and the Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, launched its 68th Toyota Technical Education Program (T-TEP) along with the STAR (Scholarship Program for Technical Education and Recognition) initiative at Government ITI Roing on Monday.

The programme aims to equip youth, particularly from underserved regions of Arunachal Pradesh, with job-ready skills in the automotive sector. It was inaugurated by minister for skill development and entrepreneurship Nyato Dukam in the presence of senior government officials and representatives from Toyota Kirloskar Motor.

T-TEP is a year-long training initiative for final-year ITI and diploma students. It combines classroom learning with on-the-job training at Toyota dealerships. At ITI Roing, the programme will cater to students enrolled in Mechanic Motor Vehicle (MMV) and diesel mechanic trades under the General Technician category.

The STAR Scholarship initiative supports meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with scholarships of up to Rs 51,000 per year, covering hostel, educational, and family support expenses.

Speaking at the event, Dukam encouraged students to make full use of the facility, which he said would bring global training standards and industry exposure to the state. He also emphasised that the initiative would benefit students from remote areas by reducing financial barriers to education.

Commissioner Saugat Biswas stated that the department would expand such collaborations to other ITIs, working with companies including Tata, Honda, and L&T to scale skill-based education across the state. He announced that ITI principals and faculty would soon visit Toyota's plant in Bangalore for capacity-building programmes.

Toyota’s country head and executive vice president Vikram Gulati highlighted the company’s vision of inclusive development through industry-academia partnerships. He said the Roing initiative was part of Toyota’s larger effort to prepare youth for innovation-driven mobility sectors.

Dealership principal of Camdir Toyota, Teli Tada, reiterated the dealership’s commitment to supporting the initiative through both infrastructure and scholarships. He noted the importance of skill-based education in creating employment opportunities for youth in the Northeast.

The facility at ITI Roing includes a fully equipped workshop, training simulators, and classrooms. The first batch consists of 20 students under the guidance of two instructors. Three students have already been selected as STAR Scholars.

Government ITI Roing, established in 1971, is the oldest technical institute in the state. The collaboration with Toyota marks a significant step in transforming it into a hub for vocational training aligned with industry needs.

Nationally, more than 13,000 students have been trained under T-TEP, with over 70 percent securing placements in the automotive sector.
