Daporijo, Apr 25: In anticipation of the upcoming Southwest Monsoon, the district disaster management authority (DDMA) of Upper Subansiri district on Friday, convened a crucial coordination meeting with various line departments and stakeholders to review disaster preparedness measures.

District disaster management officer (DDMO) C K Namchoom speaking on the occasion, urged all departments to submit their contingency plans, resource inventories, and suggestions to enhance disaster management capabilities.

He emphasised the need for a collective and well-coordinated approach in dealing with potential natural calamities.

Kodak additional deputy commissioner Mobia Tai called on all departments to remain proactive and well-informed, noting that the district and state lie in a high-risk zone for floods and earthquakes.

“Natural calamities cannot be predicted or measured,” Tai stated, stressing the importance of readiness.

Deputy superintendent of police Gamli Loyi assured that the police force remains alert and ready to respond to any situation, within the limits of available manpower and resources.

Other officials, including second-in-command of 77 RCC Vishal Magotra, Nacho SDO Nobu Chader, circle officers Goken Koyu and Gete Ripa, and Dumporijo ADC N Bui, also contributed their ideas and suggestions during the session.

Deputy commissioner Tasso Gambo, who also chairs the DDMA, instructed all administrative officers to form disaster response teams at the block and circle levels to strengthen coordination during emergencies.

He also directed departments to stock adequate essential commodities, including fuel and medicines, ahead of the monsoon.

Gambo further directed the DDMO to conduct regular mock drills and awareness campaigns. He emphasised the need to disseminate the latest disaster management guidelines among departments and stakeholders to improve preparedness and response.
