Dirang, Apr 26: A forest fire that broke out in the Nadi Par area of Dirang subdivision in West Kameng district on Thursday afternoon has been brought under control following coordinated efforts by multiple agencies.

According to officials, the fire originated from a suspected short circuit approximately 50 metres from the Additional Deputy Commissioner's Office around 2:30 pm. Dry grasses, strong winds, and favourable forest conditions contributed to the rapid spread of the fire, which engulfed nearby forest areas within half an hour.

Teams from the district administration, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Dirang Police, Indian Army, fire brigade, and residents were mobilised immediately. After continuous operations, the fire was fully contained by around 10 pm on Friday.

Authorities cautioned that some embers may remain within hollow tree trunks, and fire tenders, along with personnel, continue to remain on standby as a precaution.

The district administration has appealed to the public not to circulate unverified information regarding the incident and urged residents to rely on official sources for updates.
