Hawai, Apr 26: The second Project Management Committee (PMC) meeting to review the progress of the Model Village Project was convened on April 25 at the Deputy Commissioner's Conference Hall in Hawai under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Anjaw district, Mills Kojin.

The meeting focused on assessing the implementation of various livelihood promotion activities undertaken by the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ArSRLM) under the Model Village Project in the international border villages of Kaho, Kibithoo, and Musai. Interventions include nutrition kitchen gardens, cattle rearing, backyard poultry, polyhouse farming, fishpond development, and promotion of homestays.

The deputy commissioner stressed the importance of physical verification of project sites by concerned departments and submission of detailed progress reports. He stated that the release of the second instalment of project funds would be contingent upon a satisfactory assessment of the reports.

During the meeting, department heads proposed linking surplus production from the livelihood initiatives, such as vegetables, fish, and dairy products, with the Mission Him Veer Project to create sustainable market linkages. The DC directed officials to mobilise beneficiaries and facilitate the sale of their produce both within and outside the district to enhance income generation.

He also emphasised the need to begin capacity-building programmes promptly so that beneficiaries could acquire necessary skills and ensure the timely implementation of development activities.

The meeting was attended by the district planning officer, project director, circle officer of Kibithoo, and representatives from key line departments, including horticulture, veterinary, fisheries, handloom and textiles, and tourism, alongside officials from ArSRLM Hawai-Walong.

The Model Village Project aims to strengthen rural livelihoods and promote sustainable development in one of the country's easternmost districts through interdepartmental collaboration and community engagement.
