Aalo, Apr 26: World Veterinary Day was observed at Gumin Kinn Hall here on Saturday, with the theme ‘Animal Health Takes a Team’.

The programme was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh Veterinarian Association (APVA) in collaboration with the animal husbandry, veterinary & dairy development department.

Gracing the occasion, state social justice, empowerment and tribal affairs minister Kento Jini congratulated the team for the successful organisation of the event. He urged the department to create inclusive policies aimed at renovating veterinary infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh, particularly in West Siang district.

Highlighting the need for a veterinary college in the state, the minister informed that planning for such an institution would soon be initiated through the veterinary department.

He also appealed to veterinary farmers and civil society organizations to extend their full support to strengthen vaccination drives and effectively implement both state and central government programmes at the grassroots level.

Animal husbandry, veterinary and dairy development secretary Hage Tari, while speaking at the event commended the contributions of veterinarians, technicians, and progressive farmers across the state.

He called on civil society to work together in preserving the state’s heritage animal, the Mithun, emphasising its cultural and social significance.

Earlier, in his welcome address, animal husbandry, veterinary and dairy development director Dr Danjan Longri, elaborated on the aims and objectives behind celebrating World Veterinary Day, which was first observed in Arunachal Pradesh in 2000.

West Siang deputy commissioner Mamu Hage, appreciated the efforts of the district veterinary department in combating zoonotic diseases and ensuring the safety and health of animals, despite resource constraints.

She urged the department to promote greater awareness among the public about the importance of animal safety and welfare.
