Ziro, Apr 28: Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner, Vivek H P, on Monday chaired the 8th District Level NCORD (National Coordination Committee on Drug Law Enforcement) Committee review meeting at the Secretariat building here.

The meeting witnessed the participation of officials, representatives of community-based organisations (CBOs), and NGOs from across the district.

Appreciating the relentless efforts of the district police in curbing the menace of drug abuse, the DC stressed the need for continuous, joint, and concerted efforts by all stakeholders to effectively tackle the narcotics threat in the valley.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ojing Lego informed the gathering that the district police had registered six cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested 10 persons involved in drug-related offences.

Lego also showcased samples of suspected heroin and cannabis seized in the district to sensitise participants on the identification of banned narcotic substances.

The meeting underscored the importance of sustained awareness campaigns and coordinated enforcement drives to eradicate the drug menace from the district.
