Itanagar, Apr 29: In a major success in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking, the Special Court under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS) here has convicted and sentenced four individuals in connection with a 2018 case, officials said on Tuesday.
Capital Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh said that Yowa Yare and Banti Singh were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for supplying commercial quantities of cannabis, while Nguri Yayi and Charu Mala were awarded five years of rigorous imprisonment for selling the contraband.
The conviction follows a swift and meticulous investigation carried out by the Itanagar Police team, with Chimpu police station officer-in-charge Inspector Neeraj Nishant, receiving special commendation for his outstanding efforts, he said.
The SP praised the NDPS Public Prosecutor for the effective prosecution that led to the conviction.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics under 'Operation Dawn,' Singh affirmed his commitment to tackling drug trafficking through rigorous enforcement, preventive measures, and community engagement.
