Doimukh, Apr 29: Rajiv Gandhi University came alive with the colors and rhythms of Assam as the Rongali Bihu celebration committee, supported by the Assam Students’ Forum and the Assamese community at RGU, hosted a vibrant Bihu celebration on April 26 last.

The event brought together students, faculty, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts to celebrate Assamese heritage in grand style.

The festivities began with a cultural rally, followed by the ceremonial hoisting of the flag. Highlights of the day included an open Bihu performance and a drawing competition for school children, setting the tone for a day steeped in tradition and community participation.

Dignitaries in attendance included Doimukh MLA Nabam Vivek, RGU vice chancellor and several other notable guests.

A key moment of the event was the launch of the dedicated Bihu website and the release of the annual magazine Rongili Rono, both underscoring the university’s commitment to preserving and promoting Assamese culture.

The celebration culminated in a series of captivating cultural performances. Students, non-teaching staff, and invited troupes performed traditional Borgeet, Satriya nritya, and spirited Bihu dances, capturing the essence of Assamese cultural identity.

The event concluded with a rendition of the Jatiya Sangeet, leaving attendees with a renewed sense of pride and connection to their roots.
