Boleng, Apr 29: The District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) meeting of Siang district was convened on Tuesday under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner P N Thungon, which was aimed at assessing the status of ongoing road safety initiatives and to strategise new measures for reducing road accidents in the district.
Attended by officials from the transport department, police, public works department, health, education, urban development, and other key stakeholders, the meeting was held in accordance with Section 215 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
This section mandates the formation of district-level committees to assist and advise the state government on road safety promotion, policy formulation, and enforcement coordination.
During the meeting, several crucial issues were discussed, including the identification and rectification of accident-prone areas, the need for proper road signage and markings, the strengthening of traffic enforcement and patrolling, and the importance of regular road safety awareness drives.
The DC highlighted the necessity of timely road safety audits and better coordination among departments.
Emphasising a proactive and integrated approach, Thungon directed concerned departments to submit quarterly action-taken reports. He urged the education department to intensify road safety awareness campaigns among students as part of the district’s broader outreach strategy.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all stakeholders to enhance road safety through coordinated and sustained efforts across the district.
