BERA, Apr 30: A pickle production unit established by a local self-help group (SHG) was inaugurated in Bera village on Wednesday by Tirap Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran, in the presence of District Planning Officer LR Roy, PWD Junior Engineer T Tara, and IPR representative G Sumpa.
The facility, named C&C Pickle Hut, has been developed by entrepreneur Chalang Hakhun and her team, with support from the Deen Dayal Swavalamban Yojana (DDSUY) scheme for 2023–24. The initiative aims to scale up organic pickle production while promoting employment among local women.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Aran appreciated the team’s efforts in building a platform for community-based enterprise and remarked that such ventures align with the objectives of the 'Vocal for Local' campaign. He said the initiative serves as a model for encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
DPO Roy informed that the C&C SHG had been producing organic pickles over the past few years and was selected for assistance under the DDSUY scheme based on its performance and potential. Equipment provided under the scheme includes a utility vehicle, generator, sealing and food-processing machines, and a deep freezer to expand production capacity.
Chalang Hakhun was also selected as one of the winners of the Arunachal Pradesh Entrepreneurship Development Programme 3.0 (Pre-Incubation), and was awarded a financial grant of Rs four lakh by the chief minister on February 29, last year.
According to Hakhun, 67 women from six different SHGs are currently involved in cultivating local fruits and vegetables used in the unit’s pickle production, supporting both women’s empowerment and rural livelihoods in the region.
