Itanagar, May 5: Police have arrested a man on charges of molesting a minor from Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Sunday, police said.

The accused is identified as 26-year-old Marge alias Tai alias Barik Riba from Pagi village in Leparada district, the official said.

Divulging details of the case, Itanagar Capital Complex Superintendent of Police Rohit Rajbir Singh on Monday said that a written FIR was received on April 30, from a woman who claimed that one Marge Riba came to their residence located at Papu Hills near Oju Mission School in Naharlagun and molested her 13-year-old daughter on the intervening night at around 1 am to 2 am.

The accused ran away when the house maid came to the kitchen to drink water, he said.

He said the accused also tried to seduce her 5-year-old daughter before the incident.

Accordingly, police registered a case at Itanagar women police station under Section 4(2)/8 POCSO Act and endorsed the case to inspector Dopi Pakam for investigation.

A team led by inspector Pakam swung into action and immediately traced the accused phone number to Namsai and alerted the police there.

The accused somehow got to know about the police lookout and switched off his phone and managed to get away.

Singh said police learnt that the accused was attending a wedding ceremony of a close relative at Changlang.

The police team arrived at Changlang to make the arrest and disguised as invitees in the wedding and arrested the accused from the venue with the aid of police of Diyun police station.

The SP said the accused is being brought to Itanagar women police station for further legal procedures.

In the meantime, police recorded the statement of the complainant and the victims under Section 180 BNSS, the SP said.

He said a prayer for recording statements under Section 183 BNSS has also been placed before the Special Judge (POCSO), Yupia.

Police also checked the record of the accused and found that the accused has also been charge sheeted in a case under Section 392/34 IPC read with Section 25(1) B/27 Arms Act at Yazali police station and that the trial is undergoing before the CJM Court in Ziro in Lower Subansiri.

Further investigation in the case is ongoing, Singh added.
