Tawang, May 5: The monthly district level NCORD (National Coordination Centre for Drug Control) meeting for Tawang district was held on Monday here, which was chaired by in-charge deputy commissioner Sangey Wangmu Mosobi.
The meeting saw active participation from key stakeholders, including superintendent of police Dr D W Thongon, DySP Tasso Kato, superintendent of narcotics, tax & excise Lham Tsering, DMO Dr Thutan Tsering, and representatives from paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, market welfare committees, and the taxi and hoteliers’ associations.
SP Thongon briefed the participants on key takeaways from the recent state-level NCORD meeting chaired by the chief secretary. He emphasised the directives issued to the districts and reaffirmed that the Tawang police remain proactive, conducting regular late-night patrols to deter anti-social activities.
Dr Thongon noted that since the arrest of a suspected drug peddler last year, no new incidents of drug abuse or trafficking have been reported in the district, he encouraged all stakeholders to collaborate and share timely information on any drug-related offenses.
Addressing the gathering, the DC praised the police force for their dedication and continued vigilance in safeguarding the community.
“Prevention is better than cure, and we must remain alert to counter any anti-social activity at its nascent stage,” she said and underlined the importance of early intervention and stressed the need for prompt reporting of anti-drug initiatives through the proper channels, in line with the state government’s mission for a drug-free Arunachal Pradesh.
The DC also lauded the successful joint operation carried out on May 4 by the district police, SSB, and residents of Kungba village under Lungla sub-division, which led to the destruction of wild cannabis plantations.
The meeting concluded with an open discussion, during which members of the Hoteliers Association and other stakeholders raised key concerns related to security, tourism, and the need for collaborative strategies to combat drug-related challenges.
