Itanagar, May 6: The Indira Gandhi Park, the only public park in Arunachal Pradesh’s capital city, has been declared a "No Smoking Zone" and "Alcohol-Free Zone" with immediate effect, the district administration announced on Monday.
The move comes in response to growing concerns over anti-social activities such as alcohol consumption, smoking, and littering within the park premises, which officials say are threatening the park’s natural environment and disturbing public peace.
In an official public notice, Itanagar Capital Region deputy commissioner Talo Potom stated that such activities are not only deteriorating the park’s flora and aesthetics but also instilling fear among regular visitors.
“In the interest of public safety and environmental protection, no person shall indulge in smoking or alcohol consumption within the park area,” the notice read.
Authorities have been directed to enforce the order strictly, and violators will face legal action under applicable laws.
The Capital superintendent of police and Itanagar EAC have been instructed to ensure the order is implemented in both letter and spirit.
