Itanagar, May 6: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday held an interactive session with members of the Muslim community from Itanagar and Naharlagun to discuss the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, and its implications for community welfare and institutional reforms.

The discussion, attended by BJP state president Kaling Moyong, focused on the need to bring greater transparency, accountability and efficiency in the management of Waqf properties.

Speaking at the event, Khandu said the existing system required reforms to prevent misuse of Waqf assets and to empower community institutions to better serve their intended purpose. "Reforms are necessary to protect what is sacred and to build trust through accountability," he said.

The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025—recently passed by Parliament—mandates the digitisation of Waqf property records, compulsory registration, and stricter oversight mechanisms to prevent encroachments and financial irregularities.

Khandu thanked the community for their active participation and valuable suggestions during the session and reiterated the government's commitment to inclusive governance and safeguarding community rights through legal and administrative measures.
