Rono Hills, May 6: The Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) on Tuesday felicitated three of its student athletes for their outstanding performances at the All India Inter-University Championships 2024–25, held earlier this year.

The felicitation ceremony, organised at the vice-chancellor’s chamber, honoured the medal-winning achievements of Yorna Roshini, Hinium Mama and Lika Aku, who represented RGU in national-level martial arts competitions.

Roshini, a postgraduate student pursuing M.A. in Sports Psychology, clinched two medals in the Wushu discipline at the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship held at Chandigarh University, Mohali, from February 22 to 27. She secured a silver medal in Nanquan and a bronze in Nandao.

In another notable feat, Mama and Aku—both B.P.Ed. students from the Department of Physical Education—earned laurels in Pencak Silat at the championship hosted by Kristu Jayanti College under Bengaluru North University from April 13 to 16.

Mama won a silver medal, while Aku bagged a bronze in the Tanding category of the Indonesian martial art.

RGU vice-chancellor (in-charge) Prof S K Nayak lauded the athletes for their discipline, resilience and dedication to excellence.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Nayak reiterated the university’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent and promoting holistic development through academic and extracurricular integration.

“RGU continues to champion student participation in sports and co-curricular activities as an essential pillar of its educational philosophy,” he said.

A small celebratory gathering was also organised in honour of the achievers.
