Boleng, May 6: In a landmark achievement for youth skill development in Arunachal Pradesh, the final assessment for Siang district’s inaugural batch of adventure travel guide (high altitude) trainees was successfully conducted on Monday at the prestigious National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS), in West Kameng district of the state.
The evaluation was overseen by an accredited agency on behalf of the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 4.0).
The two-month intensive training program, held from March 1 to May 1, brought together 37 enthusiastic young participants from across Siang district.
The initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the state skill development & entrepreneurship department, NIMAS, and the district administration.
At the heart of this successful endeavor was the unwavering support of the Siang district Administration, which led a dynamic and far-reaching enrolment drive.
With robust backing from local legislators Ojing Tasing, and MLA Talem Taboh, the administration ensured smooth logistical coordination and inclusive participation, even from the district’s most remote corners.
The program blended rigorous theoretical instruction with practical, hands-on experience, covering key areas such as trek planning, risk management, safety protocols, communication strategies, and high-altitude survival skills.
Participants mastered outdoor challenges including trekking, ziplining, self-cooking, and survival simulations, along with critical training in first aid, rescue operations, leadership, and team dynamics, equipping them to serve as certified high-altitude guides.
Upon successful completion of the course, trainees were awarded certificates jointly by NIMAS and PMKVY, marking a significant milestone in their professional journey in the adventure tourism sector.
Among the shining stars of the batch were John Tali of Supsing village, who was named best trainee, along with Shan Palon of Kerang and Tanyup Talom of Lorging, all of whom exhibited remarkable skill, discipline, and leadership throughout the program.
The initiative not only strengthens Siang’s potential as a hub for adventure tourism but also charts a promising path for youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods in the region’s highlands.
