Pasighat, May 8: The Education department of East Siang district convened a joint coordination meeting at Shikshak Sadan, Pasighat, on Thursday to deliberate on strategies aimed at improving academic performance in government schools for the 2025–26 academic session.

The meeting brought together officials from the district education office, block-level functionaries, and representatives of the Arunachal Teachers' Association (ATA), East Siang district unit. The session was chaired by District Deputy Director of School Education (DDSE) Odhuk Tabing.

The discussion focused on streamlining teacher transfers and postings, especially to address the imbalance in teacher distribution across schools. Tabing emphasised the key role of Block Education Officers (BEOs) and Block Resource Centre Coordinators (BRCCs) in implementing centrally sponsored schemes, resolving school boundary disputes, and enhancing school-level performance.

BEO (Academics), John Panyang, earlier outlined the objectives of the meeting.

ATA district president Tabung Ering stressed the importance of regular school inspections to monitor teaching quality, student attendance, and the implementation of educational schemes. He also advocated for routine parent-teacher association meetings to assess student progress.

ATA district secretary Kalen Komut called on educators to contribute to societal development and urged school adopters to focus on academic achievement in addition to infrastructural needs.

A key resolution adopted during the meeting was the rationalisation of teaching staff across the district. Teachers in surplus at Pasighat town schools will be transferred to schools in blocks experiencing staff shortages. Special consideration will be given to teachers nearing retirement or with health issues, subject to medical certification and verification.

A committee comprising the DDSE, BEOs (establishment and academics), ATA president and secretary, and BRCCs from all blocks will be constituted to frame the modalities for transfers. Final transfer orders will be issued with the approval of the deputy commissioner of East Siang district.

Officials also shared suggestions aimed at enhancing the quality of education in the district’s government schools.
